Hey You Guuuuuuuys!

Okay - just posting this is SO going to date me... but bear with!

When I was a mere child I watched a few shows on TV... Sesame Street (gotta love the twiddle bugs), Mr. Rogers (because the Trolley was too cool to resist), and Electric Company...

Sesame Street has gone a little more liberal, but it's still around in semi-recognizable form.  Gordon and Susan got older, and Snuffleupagus is actually VISIBLE... but I can handle change, really I can.
Mr. Rogers - well, they're certainly not being made anymore, but the reruns are around and they're still seeing how crayons are made and Lady Fairchild is still crazy.   Most importantly - The Speedy Delivery Guy is never late!
Electric Company - disappeared off the face of the earth?

But WAIT - Monday after I posted I went to turn on the TV - and what was on?  Electric Company... really - and not a re-run... a whole new episode... but now the Electric Company is actually a bunch of kids who (in this episode at least) are running around town to liberate a stolen rhino beetle...  using their rebus skills and iPhones to chase down the catholic school girl criminal who is making a you-tube video to taunt them and give them clues at the same time...  There's a few moments of "educational TV" thrown in...  and one of the girls DID say "hey you guuuuuys" but it just isn't the same...

....one more childhood memory shot to pieces!

There were some people on Electric company who later became famous but bless my buttons, I can't remember who they are. How's that for old?

You're lucky if you have Mr. Roger reruns. He's not on the air here!

One show I loved with Muffy and Mannequin guy at the mall lights-out:
Today's Special. But no one remembers that one!

Heidi - "bless my buttons" gets you aged a lot faster than not remembering somebody on Electric Company :)

hmmm... M.O.T.H. mentioned someone recently that was on back in the day... Samuel Jackson? no... shoot, and he's not answering his cell phone - you mean my blog comment isn't as important as his job???

I read the title and thought you were going to talk about Sloth from Goonies (another great show). Good times! Loved these shows, too! I still have to wonder, though, was Mr. Rogers a pedophile? I'm just saying, he was a little light in his loafers/slippers...just a thought. Oh, did I ruin another childhood memory? Sorry!

Ha! Didn't even have to reach M.O.T.H. after all - it was Morgan Freeman as "Easy Reader" - check it out on YouTube, it's hi-lar-ee-ous!!!

Youngblood... a pedophile? hmmm... I'd always assumed gay, but never went all the way to pedophile - I just watched it for picture picture and the trolley - anyone who had to change from outdoor shoes & sweater to indoor shoes & sweater (that zipped?) really didn't hold my interest for long :)

I love that you said how Sesame Street is liberal. I kid you not, my parents did not want my brothers and me to watch it for that reason.

I totally remember those shows! I liked mr.rodger...I just couldn't ffigure out why he would change his shoes and sweater just to turn around and change them back? What a nut!

I watched a "newer" Sesame Street (about 9 years ago) and was shocked when they had a cute little bird singing about his two homes... so yeah, a little more liberal - we won't even mention some of their guest stars!

Smurfs & Fraggle Rock - oh boy, now I DO feel old... but I did notice (the other day at Target) that the Smurfs are BACK! scary!!!

Unlike most kid shows, The Electric Company had several actors who appeared in lots of other well-known productions. There's one whose first name is Luis but I can't remember his last name. The two that really stand out, though are Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno.

Well, my kids are enjoying the new Electric Company, but that's because they're growing out of that other show that the baby loves watching. They needed new fodder for expanding their vocabulary. This is just one of the new shows along with Word Girl, Martha Speaks, and Between the Lions that they enjoy, for now.

Nic, my girls LOVE Word Girl and Martha... but much as I try I can't get them to love Between the Lions (ooh, aah, dancin' smarty pants)... can't figure it out...

I LOVED the Twiddle Bugs!

It's been at least a few years since we really watched anything on PBS. But I know my boys loved The Magic School Bus. :)

I showed WordGirl to Z during one of our sorely missed Saturday morning VG (read Wii) visits from Auntie as it reminded me a bit of the PPG videos, but not as violent and much more educational. She responded well. It's good to see some effort being made to actually help kids learn instead of just entertaining them. Maybe that, and the fact that my closed captioning is always on, has contributed to the 4-year old monster we have who is now letting us know which new websites she's got an account on lately despite our clearly stating that she needs to make sure we're involved. Let's just say she is a big fan of Google.
