I really miss being bugged sometimes...

My youngest is 4... she'll be 5 next month and if you look in the dictionary for the definition of "underfoot", her picture is probably there.  She knows everything that goes on in my life because she is ALWAYS right there....  (okay, I DO manage to lock her out of the bathroom)

Don't get me wrong - I love her to pieces and my life would not be complete without each of my children but it is frequently AMAZING to me that she can't be 10 feet away.  Can Dad sit next to her at the dinner table?  Tuck her in at night?  Get a hug in the morning?  Yeah, probably not - because little miss M is mine and mine alone.

Friends whose children are grown always say to me "someday you'll miss that closeness" - and I always respond that I'm looking forward to missing it :)

But today - M went to preschool at 1:00 and by the time she came home at 3:00 I'd been at the bookfair for a few hours... she was forced to stay with her oldest brother and fry her brain on cartoons even though she normally just sits next to me (in the same chair) at the bookfair while I try to check-out 345 kids per minute.  I got done at the bookfair at 5:00 but only had time to drive by the house and let the 9 and 11 year old hop in the car to get to baseball tryouts in time...  M is still stuck with her oldest brother, this time eating "pizza pillows" which he tossed in the microwave to stave off starvation.  Baseball tryouts lasted TWO and a HALF HOURS!  She was exhausted by the time I got home - Dad was already reading her a bedtime story (see, he CAN do it if I'm unavailable) but I got to tuck her in and give her lots of hugs after she got done being mad at me...

You know what though - I missed her.  Really badly.  I don't think I'm looking forward to it as much as I was yesterday...

Aw T, I'm feeling you girlie. I felt the same way when my oldest girl was little and she was constantly keeping me on my toes. She's graduating from high school in a very few short months and I am really not looking forward to having her leave me. In fact I feel depressed just thinking about her all grown up and moving out.

I have only one kid at home now that is not in school and I'm not really looking forward to her starting school at all. I've got incredible urge to gather up the rest of the kids and shrink them so they go back to their little self again and stay little a little longer. Isn't that crazy?

Ah-I used to LOVE bookfairs. They were the best!

I was the opposite of your little girl---Daddy's girl all the way. Once my mom took me on a trip without him, and I was mad at her the whole time!

Poor M...what will happen next year at Kindergarten? You are going to be the Mom hanging out in the door every day, "just making sure she's all right"... ha ha. I hear you, though. We moms get used to being overly-loved..though it's hard that way, it's also a short-lived treat.

Anjeny - I think that might be the first time in my whole life I've been called girly... my mom would be SO proud even IF it had nothing to do with hair bows and femininity :)

Barbaloot - I don't think I was a momma's or daddy's girl... I liked my alone time...

Erin - me, hanging out at the door? yeah, maybe if I can arrange my pedicures so that I'll be done in time... (okay, so THAT's a little girly!)

Awww. My girl is like that, too, except she's only a year and a half. She's always RIGHT THERE. I will try to be more like you and love her anyway! :)

This was good prep time for kindergartin next year. Will she attend 1/2 days or a full day? (Here they have all day K). Kinder mommies are always sad, and teary on the first day, and some for weeks:D

But next year, the time will fly and you will be saying Wow!! Your home from school already?:D

The youngest are the hardest to see grow up.
