when my boys are bored they cook... and if it weren't for the horrendous mess they leave behind I would never complain... this is because they've actually got some talent in the kitchen.
Exhibit A:
Seriously... Crepes... and not just any old crepes - these are their specialty Neapolitan crepes - Vanilla, Strawberry and Chocolate all filled and rolled - ready for gluttonous consumption.
They even made me a chocolate free version. It was delicious if I must say so myself (and apparently I must... since I'm a solo blogger around here).
You know what though - they've refused to share their recipe. Downright refused. I think they're hoping to grow up and open their own International House of Crepes (IHOC?) and become rich and famous.
Well, actually - only one of them has dreams of becoming a chef - I think the oldest is still determined to become a successful musician (as opposed to the unsuccessful type who will live in my basement For. Ev. Er. - that's just not gonna fly)
It's a good thing these boys are learning to cook though - because I've got three HUGE zucchini sitting on the counter that need to become zucchini bread quickly...
I think they only do crepes though.
zucchini crepes? heck, I'd try 'em...
anyone got a smashing Zucchini bread recipe... the last one I tried was in one of those "everyone at the school submit your favorite recipe and we'll print them all up and make a bunch of money forgetting that this is going to end up being a cookbook that nobody will ever use because nobody has actually ever TESTED these recipes to make sure that it's not actually poisonous or meant to be used as a bludgeon" type of cookbooks that I got from an intermediate school fundraiser. Yep, I thought the title was long too...
I could also use some tips on how to prepare brussels sprouts... because I've got a few handfuls of those - and I'm nothing if not brave (just don't mention the naked spider incident) (and NO - it wasn't the spider who was naked... well, maybe it was also, I don't know for sure...)
Maybe if I beg enough (and pay them off) they'll allow me to share the recipe someday - but until then, know that you'll be welcome at their world famous restaurant any time, just mention that we're BBFFs and I'm sure you'll get an awesome table. Well, as soon as the restaurant goes from dreamland to real life at least.
Okay, writing that made me hungry... boys... what's for lunch???

My 14 yr old son loves to cook...he is the omelette master!! He always makes a huge mess. Ironically, his bedroom is in the basement and says he is always going to live there, he even has a plan where he is going to pay me rent and take care of me when I am old. I was hoping for a brain surgeon but I guess I will need someone to spoonfeed me when I am old LOL I will be looking for the IHOC because those crepes looked delish...I was going to show my son but since there is no recipe I am not going to risk the kitchen mess trying to figure it out!
My dad loved brussel sprouts when I was a kid, and we thought they were disgusting. I had them again, about a year ago, and I'm in love! So good.
Neapolitan crepes? Not sure I'd be at the ribbon cutting of that IHOC if we weren't related and all...
Kids who cook are great. Kids who can both cook and clean would be a great invention.
I'm looking at zucchini recipes too, just need the zuke first!
It's great that your boys cook, but dangit, I don't know if I'm going to be able to handle that stage of life...the messes...the missing ingredients..
Okay, so I just emailed you a delicious banana bread recipe and an idea for the brussel sprouts.
How very nice that your boys cook! My oldest just suggested that I could give her cooking lessons. I'd been thinking the same thing. I cooked at her age. I suppose it's time.
Yum---why didn't I ever know any teenage boys like that when I was younger?
You should have them make fried zucchini. Nothing like taking a vegetable and making it fattening:)
Aww mess schmess!
Let 'em cook.
As far as the zucchini goes....chuck it. Seriously.
Throw. It. Away.
They reproduce overnight and then you'll be wishing for a naked spider I'm tellin' ya!
Fry you up some bacon and take it out when it is done and throw in those cleaned and halfed brussel sprouts and saute them until tender. Oh and add some salt and pepper. Love them!
Your W. has totally had us hooked on crepes lately. Maybe they are starting on a trend to put pancakes out of business. Never knew you could get so creative with them though...fun.
Brussell Sprouts--not so fun--just cooked some last week. Boil them in an inch or two of water until tender (10-15 min) then lather on butter on salt.
No matter how you cook 'em they'll be gross. (B.S. for short)-- cuz that's what they make the house smell like after you cook them :)
YUM! I really want some now!!
Too bad they won't share their stinkin recipe..
And I can't buy them off now cause I'm broke..Well almost anyways...
:)
Looking forward to the end of the month! YAY!
IHOC is an awesome idea. I would eat there I love crepes! I had them alot growing up but they weren't thin at all so basically they were really just rolled up pancakes. Still good though
Successful musician crepe chefs are in high demand, you know. Better keep them happy by offering up your basement for ev. er. in case they need a place to "crash." Then you can hoard their crepes while humming along to a bass beat. Sounds heavenly...as long as there is whipped cream. :)
Wit and pictures of food! This is the perfect blog!...it's 1am, I'm starving, and there's nobody around for me to push my restless leg syndrome medication to, what is a girl to do?...guess I'll go troll your other posts, I have a funny feeling you and I are going to get along just fine...
Sorry, not brave enough to try brussel sprouts. Eesh!
But I want to say that I am quite impressed that they cook! I want my boys to cook someday!
And I do have a rather swell zucchini bread yesterday. I'll dig it up for ya if you want it!
Mmmmm...zucchini bread...of course, my recipe has about a gallon of oil and a bag of sugar. I don't think I'll be passing it on, unless you really want a veggie bread that can bring on a coronary! Sure is good, though.
Have you ever tried chocolate zucchini cake? Probably not since you haven't done chocolate for the last 21 years, but it is amazing! We love corn confetti quesadillas--1 cups grated zucchini-squeeze dry
1 cup corn
1 can drained black beans,
2 cups cheddar cheese
1/2 tes salt
1/8 tes pepper
1/2 tes chili powder
mix all that up and put 1/3 cup on half a tortilla, fold over and heat 2-3 minutes per side. We do these on a big pancake grill to cook4-5 at a time for our crew of 6. Dip in salsa and sour cream. So yummy!
