Snow many memories

I should probably mention that I grew up in Colorado - where it actually snows. REAL snow.

I have distinct memories of snow drifts that prevented our front door from opening... of jumping off the stacked hay bales into the snow drifts (after we managed to get the door open, and tunnel out...)  Of walking uphill both ways to school through mud and slush up to my shoulders...  okay - maybe not THAT bad... but close.

I remember eating down in the basement, huddled around the wood burning stove because our power was out and this was the only source of heat... My mom cooked soup or something on the stove - which I'm sure I didn't eat because I was THAT picky... my kids come by it rightly. I would have had to be at death's door before I ate something other than a hamburger with ketchup only.

So yes, I DO know what a real snowstorm is like... I really do...  I remember playing soccer in more snow than we get here in the desert.  School closures were few and far between - and usually only because my neighborhood (the country bumpkins) didn't have passable roads.  I remember wanting to CRY because I was so cold... but praying that I wouldn't actually break down because then the tears (and the snot) would just freeze onto my face.

I know...

That knowledge doesn't prevent me from wanting to hole up in my house, wrapped in my Cozy, with the heat dish aimed at my fingers to keep them warm enough to type...

and now I also know that I'm a little bit of a wimp.
"Storm" 1... Last year  (okay, last week)
"Storm" 2... This morning.
Can I tell you that I almost didn't go work out this morning...  bundling up, having to walk up the hill in the snow...  yeah, didn't sound fun to me...

But I did it.

And a good thing, because we still have leftover pie...

Yes, it's official - I now live in the desert... and I've forgotten my ability to dig out and dive in. You'll be happy to know that we're trying to keep the kids from becoming as wimpy as their mother...

So far... so good...

and now I've gotta go call in all the kids - the hot chocolate is ready to go!

I remember the same thing as a kid. I am absolutely sure that it snows less now. Good and bad, I guess. Enjoy your rarely received snow today.

Snow in the south shuts life down completely. No work, no school... some call us wimps, but I still say that snow is different when it falls here. It's wetter and more prone to turn into dangerously awful sheets of ice. And well, there just aren't that many snow plows to cover these windy mountain roads. So it snows, and we really do hole up and do nothing for a few days. I love it. Until about day three. Then I'm stark raving loony.

I was always so jealous when I'd hear about kids who got snow days. Especially when they had less snow in a week than we did in a day!

Yea, I'm sure if we would have had school they would have cancelled it... ya think??? hehehe

My kids are living it up... cause right now it's melting melting melting.

I can't say I grew up in snow... but I lived up North for a while... long enough to know I don't love it for long :)

Our neighbor was so nice to use his snowblower on our walkway since it seems we've shoveled out 40 times already these past two weeks. Bummer that he broke our sprinkler head in the process....

I would happily give up snow forever and ever!

Just sayin'.

I am so tired from bundling up and taking off!

I remember building huge tunnels in the snow in Colorado but I too have become a huge wimp and didn't work out today and I stood in the doorway wrapped in a blanket just to watch the kids play in the snow....

My sister lives in a CA desert and they had snow yesterday which...the wimps....actually canceled school.

We have had so much snow and not a single snow day to show for it...at least not one that counts!

Oh well (sigh).....

We'll be happy after school gets out. Usually a snow day is made up by an extra day at the end of the school year..

Happy shoveling!

I just moved to North Carolina and I'm wondering if I'm going to get all discombobulated too! I'll bet I do. In the meantime, pour me a cup of that hot cocoa! :)

Seriously?
It SNOWED in St George?
And we got nuthin.
Lucky.
but that makes me happy.
Cause I loathe the white stuff.
the pie and hot chocolate sound good though.

I don't fault you for losing your snow footing. It's not like riding a bike~you can lose snow skills just as you lose your determination to keep a New Years resolution. I should know...I'm eating Cheetos while I type, and it's only day 3 of "eat more nutritously."

Incredible--that much snow?there?
And I thought I could come for a visit and warm up...guess I'll have to go closer to the equator.

Wow, I almost feel sorry for you. It must be a difficult thing to bear.

Hope you are catching the dripping sarcasm.

Lol. Love Garden's sarcasm. It's relative, right? We get used to where we are.

I am totally impressed that you went out and walked in it. Of course, it's kind of a novelty down there even if it is cold. I'm sure it won't stay long. Do you have a cup of white chocolate hot chocolate? Is there such a thing?

You are a trooper...

Well, at least not a wuss.

Mostly.

The snow looks fun...of course, coming from someone who's never lived in a snowy place, except maybe the occassional visit to a snowy place, this would sound like fun. I'm sure if I lived there with all that snow, I'd never set foot outside my house til summer..LOL.

Love the picture of your kid in the snow.

Funny how wimpy we can get as we get older, but I am impressed you worked out!!! Way to be T!

We went to Tahoe last week and there was a TON of snow. Colorado quality snow. I've lived there, so I know. Anywho, we went on a sleigh ride and the poor three year old behind me sobbed the whole way and said "ow! ow! ow!" It broke my heart. I remember shopping at the Heritage mall somewhere in the Denver metro area, which is an outdoor mall, at night in 20 below weather. When we finally gave up and put our four year old in the car, we took off her gloves and she immediately burst into tears. That thawing out process is so painful. : )
