When Children become Fashion Conscious...

okay, maybe "conscious" isn't the right word?
she loves these boots!

you be the judge.

because as the mother, if I am the judge I have to deal with the kicking, screaming, crying, "you don't love me anymore and I'm going to punish you by sitting by DAD at the dinner table tonight" fits.

I'm sure the Runway announcers would have a great time announcing this little ensemble:

"and here we have Miss M - sporting a pair of boots with some real history.  Purchased years ago by a neighbor for their dress-up box these boots have seen many pair of feet, they have a lot of stories to smell tell, even before their current incarnation as a skit prop, having been painted with acrylics for a family reunion years past - that's true recycling there!"

"but don't overlook the tights - I hear tell those have some great features to them.  Where else can you find a pair of tights that ride comfortably below the bum and need to be tugged up constantly.  Rumor has it that when they were purchased they actually fit at the waist and were all but hidden by that dress - which used to reach the ankles! Innovative styling!!!"

"let's not pass over the shrug sweater - that's a hand-knit WONDER - the 1/2 length sleeves, the snug fit around her chest...  looks as it was made for her.  And it WAS - by her own grandmother - who must have some sort of future sight because when it was made six years ago it was HUGE - covering her entire torso...  but no worries, Miss M has grown into it well!"

and yes... for the record - I actually did let her go to school like that.  her hair was stunning and that makes up for a LOT!

I think she looks cute!

She looks adorable. Besides, my philosophy is if they dress themselves, they can wear what they want (within a rather generous standard).

My kids have come up with some doozies themselves.

You should see what I have taken my granddaughter to the store in! It is so much cuter when you are the grandma!!!

Oh my gosh, I love it! She has nothing on my daughter. Today she came down in her 1950's men's black fedora. That she paired with a blue and white gingham shirt and turquoise pants. And ponytail. And lipstick. I said, "Buh bye." And she went out the door like that. I think teachers know, don't you? If not, they should. :)

If I looked that cute in old cowgirl dress up boots and clothes I'd wear them too!

I've been known to dabble in some fashion reality shows so I'm totally qualified to say that she looks great. A little vintage boot with crafty sweater (I wouldn't have known there was something fishy about the shrug if you hadn't gone off on it!) and her awesome hair and she does look runway ready.
As for the tights... after hitching them up all day I bet she'll retire them soon!

What are you talking about? She looks absolutely darling! At least it's not jeans with holes in the knees, cowboy boots and a superman shirt with a cape!

Yeah, my youngest wore that getup everywhere...ya know what?... I learned to pick my battles. I put the kabosh on it when it came to church!

She looks so cute! It could be worse, she could want to look like Snookie! Did I spell her name correctly?

Haha I luv it!! I have a four year old who rocks the runway (LOL Preschool) with her own creations all the time! I'm sure her teachers wonder if I'm color blind, but if it makes her happy and willing to go to school with a smile, it's fair game! And yes, the hair was super cute!!

Those boots do look like they would be stinky...but she is so adorable it doesn't matter. I have to admit I love fashion and it's like a hobby of mine...finding the cutest best deals ever...but when it comes to my kids, I have surrendered to their own style. Maya has a "uniform" that she has created and I bite my tongue every morning. I will be doing a post about it soon so look out for it ;)

Both of my seven year olds have boots that they wear to school almost everyday. Just yesterday, Sam went into his karate class wearing bright orange gym shorts, a green t shirt, and... you guessed it. His cowboy boots. Wish I'd had a camera...

She looks like a cowgirl... is that what she was going for? Maybe you want to introduce her to some Shania Twain, or... [insert name of other country music singer here because thankfully i can't think of another one]... maybe it will be her "thing." (Didn't they have one of those in the Addams family too?)
